Book Reviews for your Bookshelf.
Grandparent's Day was in September but we are honouring our Elders! Hopefully some of these book titles will enrich you and your shelves - if you find you have a little more time for reading!

  1. "How to Retire without Retreating" by J. Godwin. Published by Barbour Press. This is a practical book for those approaching retirement but not wishing to retreat from life. The author has plenty of suggestions for preparing mentally and spiritually for staying productive and aging with grace.

  2. "Still Making Waves - Creating a Splash in Midlife and Beyond" by Gracie Malone. Published by Revell. A light hearted look into the future but also thought provoking and insightful. You may recognise yourself - with a laugh and perhaps a sigh of relief! She takes the view that life is a continuous adventure with a constant need to conquer new "lands" of experience, regardless of age. Such an attitude must be well grounded in Christ centred self-esteem.

  3. "Add Life to your Years - Aging with Passion and Purpose" by Ted Engstrom. Published by Focus on the Family. Our lives have purpose at every age. We are valued by God who planned our birth and life and never too old to serve the Lord nor to pursue personal growth.

  4. "Aging is an attitude - Positive ways to look at getting older." By Cecil Murphy. Published by Living Ink Books. We don't choose to age but we can choose how to respond to the process. Explore the purpose of aging. Freed from focus on productivity we can discover that God has distinctive lessons for us to learn and to share with the younger generation.

  5. "Faith Enough to Finish" by Jill Briscoe. Published by Christian Art. In her early 70's and drawing on decades of experience in the ministry, she invites us to invest in a faith that doesn't quit - in spite of disappointments, heartache and pressures. Using the triumphs and struggles of Jeremiah's life she encourages us to a faith that will hold on for the last half hour - not just somehow but triumphantly!
