CHRIST CHURCH, BLAIRGOWRIE
RECTOR’S REPORT OCTOBER 2011

To Know Jesus and to make him known

THE YEAR PAST

—  The struggles

—  The loss of many members

—  Finances

—  Bryan’s leaving

—  The encouragements

—  Council working together

—  The development and growth of ministries

—  Newcomers

—  Growth groups

—  Staff

—  The challenges

—  Outreach and evangelism

—  Finances

—  Managing change

ROOTED IN:

—  We must remain rooted in the gospel

—  Keep our Core values close to us

OUR CORE VALUES

  • We believe that the Bible is the Word of God. As a result of this, regular Bible teaching, Bible reading and Bible study are normal and essential for the Christian.

—  We believe that a Christian’s life should be filled with regular prayer.

—  We believe that godliness is our normal response to God. Every Christian should pursue Christ-likeness in every aspect of their lives.

—  We believe in practical love modelled on the sacrificial love of Christ, who gave Himself for us. We encourage believers to be actively involved in the issues that face us in our world and society.

—  We believe that lost people matter to God and therefore that all Christians should be involved in evangelism.

—  We believe that loving one another is integral to Christian fellowship and that this is best worked out by involvement in small groups within the church.

—  We believe that all Christians are gifted by God and should be using these gifts for the service of the body of Christ

WHERE ARE WE GOING?

—  Be a church that is missional

—  Not just does but is

—  Vibrant, inwardly strong and externally focused.

—  Strategic and a key player in Gospel ministry in CESA and in SA

—  Church planting

—  Property and resources to be used for these purposes

—  How do we get there?

For us at CCB to continue to grow inwardly and outwardly we must:

—  Envision the church

—  Be faithful to Christ and His Gospel

—  Evangelism:  give ourselves to it

—  Discipleship:  keep thinking creatively through this

—  Caring:  Vital ingredient to our ministry

—  Training lay leadership for our ministries

—  Staff play a vital role.

—  Leadership:  good biblical servant leadership remains important

—  Reaching out more effectively to our immediate community

Three outreach projects:  Last year we made a decision to give much time and attention to these three ministries

  1. Effective children’s and youth ministry

                        See reports

  1. Counseling centre

                        A work in progress.

  1. Care of the homeless

                        See report

STAFFING MATTERS

Staff grow Gospel ministry and create gospel opportunities and therefore encourage every member ministry

—  Staff

The staff have been working hard and make an enormous contribution to the ministry here, and I thank them on behalf of the whole church:

—  Marion

—  Jayne

—  Gill

—  Themba

—  Badi?

SYNOD MATTERS

—  Change of name debate

—  Synod decision

—  See attached document re process

THE KEY
